FOR: 1 Occupational Health, Safety, Wellness and Infection Prevention & Control RN (TFT) – Non-Union

DEPARTMENT:  Human Resources and Patient Services

DATE:  2019 08 22 to 2019 08 29           SALARY RANGE: Per Experience

The Occupational Health, Safety, Wellness and Infection Prevention and Control RN oversees the effective and efficient operation of the Hospital’s Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) and Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) programs in accordance with recognized best practices and legislative requirements. The RN provides consultative support on health and safety issues (including OH&S and disability management) and works with OSMH leadership to ensure appropriate and safe accommodation and return to work programs are maintained. As a role model and champion, the role will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of quality care.

 Qualifications

  • Ensures organizational compliance with all Occupational Health & Safety related legislation including: Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Labour Relations Act, etc.
  • Researches health and safety issues by reviewing relevant legislation, internal data, external sources and networking with other safety professionals.
  • Identifies the need for, researches and writes recommendations for corporate health & safety programs, policies and procedures. Annually reviews existing health and safety programs and associated policies and procedures to ensure necessary updates.
  • Develops policies and priorities in consultation with key stakeholders to align with corporate focused health and safety topics.
  • Oversees the return to work process for ill, injured or disabled employees in accordance with the Early and Safe Return to Work Policy.
  • Ensures investigations into safety concerns are completed and the necessary recommendations are actioned.
  • Oversees coordination and operation of health & safety committees and contractors. Provides advice and resources to the OH&S Steering Committees with respect to health and safety matters.
  • Entry point contact for the Ministry of Labour. Acts as a liaison between leadership and the Ministry of Labour regarding appropriate actions to be taken if required.
  • Responsible for all appeals dealing with issues such as claims, compliance orders, penalties, assessments and similar issues in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Oversees OH&S audits as required by regulations.
  • Manages the functioning of the health and safety and IPAC programs, including administering the budget, maintaining applicable documentation, establishing performance measures and analyzing and reporting on health and safety program results and trends.
  • Plans, organizes, develops and directs the Hospital’s IPAC program in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards.
  • Responsible for developing, implementation and review of the IPAC program within the Hospital.
  • Responsible for the management of surveillance, prevention, and control of infections hospital wide and will collaborate with other departments to ensure that optimal infection control practices are educated on, delineated, shared, maintained, and regularly reviewed.
  • Monitor epidemiological significant issues among employees (in conjunction with occupational health) and patient population in comparison to the community with a concern to entity or facility preparedness.
  • Perform an ongoing assessment to identify the risks for the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents. This includes the ongoing assessment of the population we serve, the organizations infection prevention and control data and the care, treatment and services provided.
  • Ensures that there are preventive, surveillance, and control procedures relating to sterilization, disinfection, and cleaning practices in all departments.
  • Ensures IPAC education is in place and provided to all employees on an ongoing basis as needed.
  • Facilitating and/or participating on Hospital Committees including: Occupational Health & Safety, Accessibility Planning, Emergency Planning, Infection Control Committee, Product Evaluation, Space Planning and others as required.
  • Provides reports to senior management regarding health and safety indicators, initiatives and statistics. Makes recommendations to senior management team.
  • Ensures legislatively required and hospital approved education is provided to all staff at time of onboarding and at regular intervals during employment. This includes WHMIS, Immunization, Wellness, Health & Safety education.
  • Analyses, evaluates and ensures reporting of all immunization statistics to Ontario Public Health.
  • Identifies and promote Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and other wellness initiatives to assist in building a healthy, positive workplace environment in collaboration with HR.

 Education & Certification

  • Undergraduate Degree in Nursing or Health Promotion – Required

  • Two to Three (3-5) years of progressively responsible related experience in Occupational Health and Safety and Infection Prevention and Control.

  • Occupational Health Nurse Certificate – Required.

  • Infection Control and Prevention continuing education and development course - Preferred.

  • Experience in public health or hospital epidemiology principles, infectious diseases, and sterilization, sanitation, and disinfection practices required.

Applications are now being accepted for 1 Part Time Unscheduled  Medical Radiation Technologist (Mammography/CT/Radiology).  This position is available immediately.  The successful applicant may be scheduled approximately 7.5 hours  including days, evenings, staggered shifts, on-call and including weekends. 

 Education

  • Must be registered with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario
  • Contrast Injection course required

Experience

  • Mammography experience preferred
  • CT experience an asset.
  • X-Ray experience required

 Education

  • Successful completion of Secondary School required

  • Completion of Central Service Association of Ontario (CSAO) Medical Device Reprocessing Techniques Course required

  • Sterile Supply Processing certificate from recognized College required

  • CSAO certificate required

 Education

Education

  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses
  • Current certificate in BCLS & NRP certification required
  • Demonstrates well developed assessment and nursing skills for antepartum, labour, delivery, post-partum, as well as assessment & care of the newborn
  • Maternal-Newborn Course or agreement to obtain within 6 months
  • Basic Fetal Monitoring Course or agreement to pursue within 6 months
  • Breastfeeding Education required within 6 months
